New meeting location (September 2010)

We have reserved space at Borealis Yarns for our monthly meetings through December (and hopefully beyond). Positives are the association with a yarn shop, a central location, free parking on the street, a coffee shop next door, and a meeting room with a door. Full address and link to a map can be found in the blog post on our September meeting.

Backbacks and Bags: September 11 Meeting Preview

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, September 11 from 2:30 to 4:30 at a new location: Borealis Yarns at 1340 Thomas Avenue in St. Paul, MN - the conference room where they hold classes - (click here for directions). We have three main items on the agenda and hope you can join us!
  • Work on our backpacks and bags. Several people have already started collecting t-shirts and making yarn so there will be plenty of skeins for practice - bring a size Q hook (15.75mm or 16.00mm, depending on brand) and we'll show you how to get started. If you have t-shirts for the project, bring them too - some of us are bringing rotary cutters and cutting boards so we can make more yarn.
  • Brief discussion of chapter business: report on chapter name and CGOA affiliation and any other details/questions that come up.
  • Share our latest projects.

Meeting Highlights: August 2010 Meeting

We held our regular monthly meeting Saturday August 14 from 2:30 to 4:30 at Tommy Chicago's Pizzeria in The Village of Mendota Heights. Meeting highlights:
  • We launched our first community project, making backpacks and bags from recycled t-shirts. Carmelle, the project originator, gave us background on this project (funding has been cut from many shelters), and Maxine showed a sample bag that she had (almost) completed.

  • Gail attended the 2010 Chain Link Conference (CGOA's national conference) in July and gave us a report of the workshops, fashion shows, and meetings she attended. We were all very excited to hear that the 2011 show will be in Minneapolis!.
  • Carol D volunteered to maintain the group email list and to send out meeting reminders.
  • And, of course, we had a great time crocheting and sharing our latest projects.
