Meeting Highlights: Backbacks and Bags

Our new meeting location proved to be a hit with those attending--we have a small private room to ourselves, with a yarn shop and coffee shop right outside the door.

We decided to set a goal of 20 backpacks for our next meeting, and with 6 delivered at the meeting, we are well on our way to meeting that goal. Several members brought T-shirts, cutting mats and rotary cutters to the meeting, allowing us to prepare several bags of "yarn" for the project, for use with this free Ravelry patternCarmelle had emailed another bag pattern to members on our mailing list just before the meeting. Wendy used a pattern from the Big Hook crochet book.

We had some great show-and-tell projects. Hilary has taken a class on Clones lace; she brought a lace item and examples of Clones motifs. Wendy brought backpacks for our project. Jeanne designed a lap robe and shared with us her first skeins of hand-spun yarn (which was absolutely perfect in every way). Carol D finally completed a green mohair solomon's knot scarf; we learned the solomon's knot at one of our meetings a year ago. We have pictures of all these projects, which will be posted to this blog on a gallery page soon.

We discussed the possibility of a "5th Saturday field trip." Our meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Some months have 5 Saturdays; October is such a month. We discussed going to either StevenB's in South Minneapolis or to Maxine's favorite shop in Roberts WI in October. We will firm up our trip plans at our October meeting.

For our October meeting, Maxine will teach us some basic knitting skills. The latest issue of Interweave Crochet has projects that combine knitting and crochet, so these skills will come in handy.
