Tunisian Crochet Workshop, June 29

What do you do when a month has five Saturdays? Why, you find a way to enjoy extra crocheting, of course! This year's calendar shows June 29 as a Fifth Saturday and to make the most of it, we've decided to plan an extra education event, a Tunisian Crochet Workshop.

Everyone who is interested in learning the basics of Tunisian crochet is invited to join us on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Community Program Room at the Ramsey County Library in Roseville. (The Community Program Room is on the first floor near the entrance that faces Hamline Ave.) There is no charge for the workshop.

This workshop will be very informal and hands-on, with several seasoned Tunisian crocheters from CTC available to help. We’ll show you basic stitches: simple stitch, knit stitch and purl stitch. We will also help you get started with any beginning Tunisian projects you have in mind. And there will be a special show and tell table with sample Tunisian projects and examples of different types of Tunisian hooks.

Please plan on arriving promptly at 10 a.m. when the library opens. We'll use the first 15 minutes for organization and introductions, then jump into a quick demo (another 20 minutes or so), with the rest of the time for practice and individual help.

To get the most out of the meeting, please bring:

  • Approximately two to four ounces of worsted or bulky weight yarn.
  • A hook suitable for Tunisian for your yarn. You do not necessarily need to purchase a special Tunisian hook; several of the beginner projects can be worked on a regular crochet hook as long as the shaft does not have a thumb rest. For Tunisian, you will need to work with a hook one to three sizes larger than you'd use for regular crochet.
  • Tapestry needle, scissors and stitch markers
  • Any of your Tunisian questions and ideas!

If you have a Tunisian pattern in mind that you'd like to begin, bring an electronic or printed copy with you.
